map Al Zubara Museum's geo location

Location: Al Zubarah, North-west Qatar

An important archaeological site, famous for its old fort. The Al Zubara Fort is home to a regional museum. One of the oldest museums in Qatar, this fort-turned-museum was constructed in 1938 during the reign of HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani and was erected on the ruins of a neighboring fort. It houses a number of antiquities found in the area and is close to several old and deserted fishing villages. To reach it, you drive out of the capital on the north road and follow the sign-post turning to the left at the police post, which is about 58 km out of town. It is open to the public all weekdays and on Saturday and Friday evening. Entrance is free of charge.
