Health and Medicine
Health care for Qatari citizens at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), the group that runs all the government hospitals is normally free. For non Qatari residents, services at HMC are available at a reduced fee when using the government-issued health card (see Health Card Section). Healthcare in Qatar has come a long way in the past few years and with the development of Sidra Medical and Research Center and the Hamad Medical City, it hopes to raise its services to international standards. Qatar has a large number of highly qualified doctors at HMC and private clinics, in many medical and surgical specialities including Pediatrics; Dermatology; Neurology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, to name a few. HMC have recently opened the Fahad bin Jassim Kidney Center with advanced equipment and a highly-trained team of specialists to provide dialysis facilities. There are a number of private hospitals and health care centres that also provide a high quality of service. These include dental and orthodontist experts which are also available through private clinics. Before leaving your country of origin, it is recommended that you have up-to-date vaccinations for the following: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Meningococcal, Typhoid, Tetanus-Diphtheria, and Measles. If you have been in an area infected with Yellow Fever within five days of arrival in Qatar, you are required to have an International Certificate of Vaccination for Yellow Fever in order to enter the country. If you plan on taking a vacation in other countries, it is recommended that you secure all necessary vaccinations prior to leaving your own country. Medical insurance is available and in most cases is provided by your employer. Always have your insurance policy with you; and have your policy numbers recorded in various places for easy reference.
