Education

The Supreme Education Council (SEC) oversees and develops the education policy in Qatar. It monitors the progress of education reform efforts, and governs the Education and Evaluation Institutes. The Supreme Education Council also approves the contracts for the independent schools and educational institutions in Qatar.  Within the education reform are government-funded groups as well as private schools which are non-profit organizations sponsored by their individual embassy.

Education City
Education City is a 2,500 acre campus on the outskirts of Doha which hosts branch campuses of some of the world’s leading universities, as well as numerous other educational and research institutions, including Texas A&M University, Weill Cornell Medical College, Carnegie Mellon University, Virginia Commonwealth University and The Georgetown University School of Foreign Service Qatar (SFS-Q).

Education city offers a full range of curriculums from early childhood through to post graduate.
 
The academic and research facilities will include shopping, sports and recreational facilities, making it a “city” not only in name alone.

Education in Qatar - Comprehensive primary, secondary and higher is available to Qatari and expatriate children. Generally there are a large number of schools with a range of curriculums, to suit many nationalities. Many expatriate communities in Qatar have opened schools that teach their particular national syllabus.  Major English-language schools include: Qatar Academy, Doha College, the Choeifat School, and the American School at Doha (ASD).

Teaching and education in Qatar is of a high standard from pre-school to university. For the better schools there is normally a waiting list, so it is advisable that you select several alternatives. Children will come and go throughout the year, so this will increase your chances of securing a place.  If a position becomes available you will be notified immediately, as schools will accept children during the school terms.

When submitting your application form by post or online, you will need:
• Copy of Passport
• Copy of most recent school report
• Up-to-date Immunization record
• 2 Passport sized photos

There is a wide choice available to those who are studying in Qatar with the set up of Education City which houses a number of well reputed universities. There are also opportunities for adult learners to further their education through on-campus or distance educational institutions in Qatar.  In addition, many interesting leisure classes are offered in Doha to enable participants to pursue favourite hobbies and develop new skills.
