Registration

Registering your car when it is bought brand new is no problem at all. Car Dealers usually arrange for registration.  You will receive a registration card with the details of ownership, insurance and specifications.  This card is often called a road permit or estimara. You will need to re-new your registration/road permit every year.

Re-registration is done at the Traffic Department at Al Khalifa Street.  The application form to be completed can be typed on the ground floor and costs between QR 10 to QR 15.  On submission of the required documents and fee to the registration counter they will give you a new card and two coloured squares (which need to be stuck on your registration plates).

If you have bought a second hand car you will need to go through the registration again to change the details of ownership, insurance etc. you can download the form from the hukoomi website, and take it over to the Traffic Department (Madina Khalifa or Airport Branch) and follow the same procedure as Re-registration.

You will need:

  • The completed form (in Arabic)
  • Your expiring estimara / old road permit
  • Valid Insurance documents
  • To settle any outstanding fines
  • Technical Inspection Report - This is required only if your car is older than 3 years.  This is a certificate of road worthiness given after the completion of a an inspection and roadworthy auto test at the Qatar Technical Inspection Unit.
  • QR 100

Qatar Technical Inspection Unit (Tel: 460 4029/460 4086) on 24th street in the Industrial area will on inspection and compliance with their standards (they conduct a specified roadworthy auto test on your vehicle) issue  you a Technical Inspection Report. The centre is open from six in the morning to five thirty in the evening. Many garages will put your car through the test for you, repair anything it fails on and then resubmit it.
