For Qatari citizens healthcare is free. For non-Qatari residents, services are available for a low fee on presentation of a government-issued health card. There are also a number of private hospitals, health centres, and dental clinics run by the expatriate communities that provide the very best of services. Dental and orthodontist services are also available through private clinics. A massive project, recently completed, is expanding Hamad Hospital into a major medical facility though currently it is used for housing the Athlete's for the Asian Games, and is called Athlete's Village.
Before leaving your country of origin, it is recommended that you have up-to-date vaccinations for the following: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Meningococcal, Typhoid, Tetanus-Diphtheria, and Measles. If you have been in an area infected with Yellow Fever within five days of arrival in Qatar, you are required to have an International Certificate of Vaccination for Yellow Fever in order to enter the country. If you plan on vacationing in other countries, it is recommended that you secure all necessary vaccinations prior to leaving your own country.
Health insurance is available and is usually provided by your employer. Always have your insurance policy with you; and have your policy numbers recorded in various places for easy reference.
There are many doctors and specialists in Qatar. Qualified opticians, chiropractors, dentists, pharmacists, and social workers offer professional services to both local residents and expatriates. There are medical laboratories, blood banks, and x-ray centers as well as general physicians and cardiology specialists. Doctors of many medical specialties are available, including Pediatrics; Dermatology; and Ear, Nose, and Throat. |
