The Qatar Electricity and Water Corporation. (kahrama) is the only distributor of water and electricity. The voltage in Qatar is 240volt and the sockets are three-pin, although most appliances here have two-pin plugs. Adapters can be bought at most supermarkets in Doha. When renting accommodation the electricity and water is generally connected before you move in. If you have to activate it yourself you will need to submit a no objection letter from your sponsor with a copy of his ID; an application form signed by the same person who signed the lease, a copy of the lease and the security deposit of QR2000 (QR1,200 for electricity and QR 800 for water) to one of the kahrama offices. Bills are sent out every month. They can be paid online at www.kahramaa.com.qa using Visa or Mastercard, by telephone on 465 1100, at any of the banks in Doha, by cash at QPost's main office (counter No.9) and at all its branches or at the Kahramaa customer service centres. |
