The death of a loved one is always hard to deal with and procedures in a foreign country add to your pain and stress. In the event of a death in Qatar the police have to be notified to get a police report stating no foul play is involved. The Mortuary (439 2594) will then issue you a notification of Death Certificate. You will have to collect a transfer of Dead Body certificate from the CID. The rest of the paperwork is done at the Preventive Health Department and on completion they will issue 6 sets of Death Certificates.

you will need

• 10 copies of the deceased person's passport
• 10 copies of the deceased person's spouse's passport
• 10 copies of the passport of the person handling the arrangements
• Copies of each person's ID card may also be required.

Each embassy has different procedures to follow after this. You will have to register the death at the embassy first so that the passport and visa can be cancelled. The Mortuary arranges to transport the body to the aircraft on intimation of the flight details, you will have to make arrangements for a coffin as well as preparing the body. Different countries require different certificates for transportation of the body. It is best to confirm with your embassy what the exact procedures are.
