There are many people in Qatar who have formed clubs and organisations, some also tailored towards various nationalities. Joining a club or an organisation can be an interesting and enjoyable way to past the time and meet new people, and is also a great opportunity for you to learn new skills or enjoy hobbies. There are now many in Qatar which offer a variety of activities in which you can participate and cultural organisations hold various cultural functions throughout the year. Normally there is a minimal membership fee.

Al Khor Toastmasters

Al Khor Toastmasters meet at 6:45pm, every second and fourth Monday. Semi-annual membership is QR 125 (singles) or QR 200 (couples), from October to April with QR 100 for guests. Enjoy humorous dinner debates and explore the website to hone your public speaking skills.

American Women’s Association

Founded in 1979, the American Women’s Association is a vibrant and active women’s group for all nationalities. They provide a wide variety of activities and events, and also have some volunteer programs, a book club and hold a charity bazaar every year.

The Canadian Embassy in Kuwait is responsible for the Canadians living and working in Qatar. However, without a permanent presence in Qatar the embassy relies heavily on the warden system; a network of volunteers to act as intermediaries that maintain communications between the Canadian Embassy in Kuwait and the Canadian Community in Qatar.

Doha Garden Club

Meetings are held every month. They share information on gardening in this climate, plants that grow well in Qatar, where to buy them, etc. Their annual membership fee is QR 100. They also have an annual garden tour of selected gardens in the area around March, the proceeds of which are donated to a local charity.

The first toastmasters club in Qatar, they have fortnightly meetings for improving communication and leadership skills. Meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of all months at the Gulf Paradise Hotel, and are open to members and guests (free of cost) who are interested in improving their soft skills. They also conduct short term programs like youth leadership programs for adolescents in the age group of 12 to 18 and speech craft program for adults.

Malaysian Association of Qatar
The Malaysian Association of Qatar (MAQ), was formed on 14 April 2000 on the recommendation by YB Dato’ Paduka Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir, the then Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, who was on official visit to Qatar.MAQ is officially recognized by the Government of Malaysia as the Association representing Malaysians in Qatar and patronized by the Ambassador Malaysia to the State of Qatar.

Qatar Motorbike Club

They have a Road section and a Desert section that both ride out on a Friday morning and sometimes on Saturday morning as well. They meet socially every Tuesday night at Garveys. Qatar Natural History Group
Qatar Natural History Group (QNHG) was founded in November 1978 to ‘bring together people with an interest in the natural history of Qatar and the Gulf’. They have an annual subscription of QR 30 per adult and meetings take place between October and June, usually on the first Wednesday of the month (at the Gym at DESS, 7:30pm). They conduct field trips on the last Friday of each month to places of interest around Qatar, camping trips and star-gazing expeditions, and during eid they also plan visits overseas.
