Car Dealers usually arrange for registration when you buy a new car and cars need to be re-registered every year. Cars older than three years need a road permit (Estimara) to re-register, this is an inspection of road worthiness.

Qatar Technical Inspection Unit (Tel: 460 4029/460 4086) on 24th street in the Industrial area will on inspection and compliance with their standards issue you a new road permit for QR 75. The centre is open from six in the morning to five thirty in the evening. Many garages will put your car through the test for you, repair anything it fails on and then resubmit it.

Re-registration is done at the traffic department at Al Khalifa Street. The application form to be filled can be typed on the ground floor and costs between QR10 to QR15. On submission of the required documents to the registration counter and they will give you a new road permit and two coloured squares (which need to be stuck on your registration plates).

You will need:

  • The completed form (in Arabic)
  • Your expiring Estimara / old Road permit
  • The road test report
  • A valid insurance
