Only once you have a residence visa can you buy a car in Qatar. Cars are relatively affordable, as they are imported duty-free, and there are numerous vehicle dealers in Doha. You can find all the latest snazziest cars here as well as those for people with a budget constraint. 4WDs are very popular here and the Toyota Land Cruiser is the most popular.

Tips for buying a car:

  • Negotiate for a discount; this is almost always possible.
  • Look for promotional campaigns.
  • Check for the manufacturer's warranty.

Used Cars
There are a number of used car dealers here, especially on Salwa Road, though the quality may not always be good so purchase it from a reputable dealer. Supermarket and compound notice boards are a good source too as expats who are leaving often offer good deals. There are a number of garages here which function purely to test your car for you. They'll even tell you how much you should pay for the car. So if you are planning on getting a used car make sure you have a professional take a look at it too.

It's relatively simple to transfer the ownership if you've bought a used vehicle. You will need to go to the traffic department with the current owner of the car and complete the necessary paper work.
