Qatar has strong diplomatic international relations. It was one of the founding members of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) established with an aim to integrate the Gulf States and promote mutual co-operation.

Qatar believes in peaceful means to resolve problems/disputes amongst countries and does not support terrorism in any form.

Qatar has close diplomatic and economic ties with the US and is the regional base for the US Central Command. Qatar played a major role in the UN Lebanon/ Israel Ceasefire agreement.

The country also extends its charity services to many needy countries in Asia and Africa and is an active member of the United Nations (UN). It became the first Arab country to win a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council.

Qatar is also a member of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Trade Organisation (WTO), and the World Health Organization (WHO).
