Two Filipino rock bands from two different generations are set to take Doha by storm as they conquer the stage for the 'Rakrakan Reload Qatar' to be held on Saturday at the Qatar Sports Club. Dubbed as the biggest rock event this year, 'Rakrakan Reload' is being hosted by ABS-CBN Middle East, a Philippine-media conglomerate, for the second straight time. Last year, the media network brought 'Rakrakan Overload' which received very warm response with a big turnout of Filipino rock fans. "We are expecting 8,000 rock enthusiasts to attend the concert," said Maribel R Hernaez, Events Manager of ABS-CBN Middle East.
The Dawn and Kamikazee are the bands set to enthral rock fans in Doha with their hit songs and exceptional performance.
Gaining popularity in the late 1980s, The Dawn has already recorded more than a dozen albums including their immortal hits Enveloped Ideas, Salamat (Thank You), Iisang Bangka (One Boat) and Tulad ng Dati (Just Like Before). These songs had made an indelible mark in the mainstream Filipino music with Enveloped Ideas having been voted the greatest New Wave song of all time in the Philippines.
Kamikazee, who have penetrated the music industry six years ago have already established a very strong presence in the rock scene with their popular hits Girlfriend, Chiksilog and Tsinelas among others. Their greatest song probably is Narda which had dominated the airwaves as one of the most requested songs in the Philippines in 2006. "The Dawn and Kamikazee were chosen as the performers for this year's 'Rakrakan' based on a market survey which revealed that Filipino residents in Qatar were predominantly male who are old and new rock lovers," Hernaez told The Peninsula.
"The audience will expect the same energy during rock concerts in addition to superior lighting and sound. They will never regret coming to the grand event," she said.
The concert will be held in connection with the two-day '1st Filipino Expo in Qatar' which is slated to open tomorrow at the Qatar International Exhibition Centre.
