Doha, Qatar, VCU Qatar presents its Ninth Annual Fashion Show which is open to the public on May 7, 2008 at 7pm. Inspired by glitz and glamour, the theme for this year's show that promises to bring the audience to a halt is 'Bling'. A door close at 6.45 pm and seating is on a 'first come first seated' basis.
"In my opinion this is the best senior collection we have ever had. We have six seniors featuring their work in this show. You can see the diversity in each students approach to fashion, each one so different and individual." said Sandra Wilkins Fashion Design Department Chair.
This year's show will feature a wide array of eye-catching designs which incorporate crystals, sequins, rhinestones and everything which is 'Bling'.
The fashion show is part of the annual activities of VCU Qatar's fashion design program, to develop the country's growing fashion industry, with support from Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development . Doha is one of the most multi-cultured cities in the world and those influences will surely be reflected in the show.
Guest designers for this year's show Isabel and Ruben Toledo were speakers in Tasmeem Doha 2006 . Isabel and Ruben Toledo are two highly talented individuals working in synergy. Muse to her husband's sculpture, painting and illustration, Isabel Toledo conceives of shapes and structures to clothe the human body. Complementarily, Ruben Toledo's surreal view of life brings humor and unconventionality to her industrial world.
Born in Cuba one year apart from each other, Isabel and Ruben met while attending high school in New Jersey . They married soon afterwards, and entered the New York fashion world almost immediately. Strongly anchored in Cuban culture yet highly individualistic, both approach their craft with passion.
This year Isabel and Ruben Toledo's collection will be feature in an exhibition which will be on display at VCU Qatar for 10 days.
