ConocoPhillips Presents:DOHA COMMUNITY ORCHESTRA CONCERT featuring The DCO Orchestra, The Wind Band and Doha Singers. Ticket price for this concert are QR 50 for adults and QR 25 for children under 16. Concert tickets can be purchased in advance at The International Centre for Music, ASD High School Office, via e-mail (dohaorchestra@gmail.com), or at the door the day of the concert. Accompanying the Orchestra at this concert will be the community choir Doha Singers, a mixed group that is 50 members strong and directed by Bob Krebs. Bob Krebs is the Choral Director at the American School of Doha (ASD). The Orchestra is under the direction of Orchestra Director Brita Fray. The Wind Band will be conducted by Sanford Jones. The Doha Community Orchestra as a whole boasts approximately sixty players of various nationalities from all walks of life: students, professional musicians, music teachers and amateurs. Orchestral Director Brita Fray holds a degree in music education and was Principal Conductor of the All-City Youth Orchestra of Chicago. As a violist, Brita has performed and toured with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Youth Orchestra of the Americas, and various other festival orchestras. Sanford Jones, an instrumental instructor at the American School of Doha, is also a tuba player with the DCO. Whether as a performer or a conductor, he is active in the music scene in Doha, participating in musical productions and even a member of Doha Singers. The concert at the end of the month will begin with Sanford Jones and the DCO Wind Band performing Air for Band, a Gershwin selection, and Mancini's The Pink Panther. The Wind Band is also pleased to be performing 7th A.C.C.S. March by local published composer John K. Evans, a trombone player in the DCO. Bob Krebs and the Doha Singers will be performing choral pieces based on works of poets. Included in the repertoire are selections in Spanish, Brazilian, Elizabethan English, Spiritual, and even the 1980's pop song The Famine Song. After a brief intermission, Brita Fray and the DCO Orchestra will then take the stage and perform several multi-genre pieces, including Waltz from Sleeping Beauty, Beethoven's First Symphony, arranged selections of Georges Bizet's Carmen Suite and the strings-only piece St. Paul's Suite. This triple concert is not one to miss!

Based on Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen’s poem ‘Terje Vigen’ and renowned Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish’s ‘A Soldier Dreams of White Lilies’, Identity of the Soul is an unique five-screen cinematic event about revenge, reconciliation and the individual. Identity of the Soul is touring internationally throughout 2009, with confirmed dates in Norway and Qatar. The film is an exciting combination of poetry, images shot around the world, archive footage from the BFI National Archive and new work, complemented by an original soundtrack that fuses Scandinavian and Arabic musical traditions with contemporary electronic rhythms. Under the request of The Ministry of Culture, Arts & Heritage and for compliance on general safety, it is not permitted to bring children under 12 years old.
