Qatar through the lens

Since big bags have come back in, I've started carrying my camera around wherever I go.  I rarely take pictures of people its the landscapes around me that grab my focus.  So here goes... Qatar being where it is on the map, though a peninsula lies in the sheltered waters of the Arabian Gulf. It is really rare to see waves at Sealine. This shot was taken at sunrise... ....

VODAFONE saga

Let me start from the beginning.    I am generally satisfied Qtel client, I have had their mobile since long long time ago (number starts with (551), and Blackberry for at least 3 years now. I had my share of Qtel problems, like anyone else in Qatar, but lately they have turned out to be quite a good provider (see my previous blog).   On the other hand, being an avid Apple user ....

Professional Copy Writing Service

Did you know that? Reading from computer screens is tiring and about 25 percent slower than reading on paper; As user-driven medium the web encourages users to move on and click on items thus reducing the period spent on a single scrolling page; Users do not know whether the current page is the one they need or if their answer is on another page and are not willing to commit the t....

Funny thing happened while we were waiting for Vodaphone

QTEL actually became a great company! And I'm not saying this lightly. Few expats did more QTEL-bashing in various forms of media (blogs, websites, newspapers, etc) than me. But, while we were all waiting for Vodaphone, QTEL didn't stand still at all... Of course, Vodaphone's botched launch (and let's face it, they messed it up badly. With delays, lack of proper infrastructure, weird and ina....

the-michael-jackson-experience

I must admit I was not happy about still being in Qatar this past Friday night, but since the flights to both DC and NY were overbooked (was trying get home to see a sick family member) I opted to hang out with some friends. They suggested the Qube, which I had never been to before. I figured why not mix it up and try something beyond the W. It must be stated that I am generally not a fan of ni....

Finally something resembling normalcy

I must admit that when I returned to Doha after a month in DC, I was completely off balance. The recent arbitrary laws governing bars had me down and my new job was 6-days a week. The job-I had no idea when I agreed to the position that it was a six-day workweek and I must admit that every fiber of my being wanted to quit and return to my cheap and simple life in Buenos Aires. I didn’t see....

Mother’s Day…kinda of forgot

Okay I’ll just say it; I have been so self involved that I forgot it was about to be Mother’s Day in the States. Well, fortunately I have a wonderful friend that reminds me of things like this and I had already been shopping in the Bombay Silk Market and was having an outfit tailor made in my Grandmother’s signature purple – made specifically to match the hat she bought w....

Hello Doha

I want to introduce myself and give you a bit of my background but I think the first thing to be said is this: the following are my personal opinions and personal experiences. As with most blogs and online accounts, I am sure they will be scrutinized and commented upon by those who take a counter position to my thoughts or have completely different encounters, but hey that’s life and I....

Sad-state-of-cinemas-in-doha

Well, I am a movie buff. I love everything about going to the movies: big screen, opportunity to see the film in company of other people, even the popcorn. Unfortunately, I've had it with cinemas in Doha, and I won't be going to see the films ever again in this town. First - it is the mobiles, of course. Attendants in cinemas are usually low-level employees, simply too frightened to ask youn....

Rumaila Hospital - communication gap or something else?

For the last one year, since my family arrived here in Doha, I had to take my daughter to Hamad hospital for her checkups. She was diagnosed with cataract when she was only 1 year old, which was removed while she was back in Pakistan and for the last one year she was wearing those thick glasses.. .. +15 & + 16 number… (Tough & Difficult). Anyhow… when she turned 2, the Ophtha....
