Qatar Today Editorials - Centre for Islamic Information

The Centre will help Muslims in reaffirming the values of Islam,
while taking care of their brethren, connecting them socially and
culturally to their roots and imbibing values of brotherhood. This
centre will introduce non-Muslims to the values of Islamic culture
while enlightening them of the integrity of the religion.

This beautiful concentric tower that stands proudly off the corniche, is a landmark eight-storeyed structure that can be viewed from several strategic points in the City. The centre has exclusive areas for men and women, and a mosque with a capacity of one thousand. There are lecture halls with a capacity of around 650 people. There are commercial showrooms and offices to be let for rent, the revenue from which will be used for the operation of the centre and charity purpose.
The project was built with the QR25 million donation made by the executors of the will of Jassim Al Darwish Fakhroo. The land and extra fund to complete the project was given by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.
Jassim Al Darwish Fakroo had established a trust to manage his wealth after his death, and had expressed a desire to set aside a portion of his wealth in the form of ‘permanent’ charity, to serve the society continuously over the years. In addition to the Islamic Centre, the trust also bought a school in Manchester for Arabs and Muslims living in UK. The trust also supports the Islamic Website run by the Ministry. The agreement for the Islamic Centre was between the trust who handled the wealth of Jassim Al Darwish Fakhroo and the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. Jassim Al Darwish Fakhroo died in 1992 and his wishes were carried out by the trust committee which include some of his sons and the manager of Awqaf department in the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.
